The company was originally called “Toyoda”

The name “Toyota” was chosen in part because the kanji can be written with eight strokes of the pen. Since eight is a lucky number in traditional Japanese culture, the new name stuck.

The Corolla is the best-selling car in the world

On average, Toyota sold a Corolla once every 37 seconds from 1966 to 2013. Overall sales reached a whopping 40 million units in that timeframe.
