It is safe to say I have always had a passion for automotive service. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, in fact, more accurately I was born with a stainless wrench. As long as I can remember I have always loved cars.
Growing up, while other 8 year olds spent nights and weekends watching movies and playing video games, I would go to work on cars with my dad at his shop. I had a knack for seeking out broken parts off cars and fixing those parts. I suppose that I have always enjoyed taking cars and making them better.
My dad could see that my interest was more than just a passing stage and as I got older, so he would let me fix his customer’s cars as they would come into his shop. This passion grew as I was deciding what I wanted to do in during high school. Thanks to the example of my father, plus the gift of a humble shop space to use when I first began, I opened my first shop. I wasn’t your typical high school student since I was running a small business working nights and weekends. Soon I was able to buy a shop of my own and started Scott’s Auto Inc. in 1993, launching with only $200 in the bank.
My beginning has taught me that this really is a nation of opportunity. In time I have grown to appreciate how our business has evolved from working out of a temporary space as a in the early 1990’s to running a full service automotive business. From the very beginning, I have understood that although Scott’s is a car-business, in the end it really is a people-business. Scott’s has grown to become a very special and unique business, which wouldn’t be what it is if it weren’t for our wonderful customers, employees and family. Meet the Team
Scott is a Fort Collins native. Born right here at Poudre Valley Hospital, Scott’s whole live has been about cars and racing! He grew up working for his dad at his local auto body shop. He and his dad’s love of cars led him to take up racing in soap box derby’s. Scott’s hobby and passion for racing eventually led him into racing midgets, sprint cars, stock cars, and legends. Scott became a Semi-Pro Legends driver and took home several awards including the Nevada State Championship. He gave up racing in 2010 but is now coached his son “Scotty” Milan who is following in his footsteps racing quarter midgets at the age of 14. When Scott isn’t running the business with his wife of 19 years, Kelly, he is spending every spare moment coaching Scotty or helping his daughter Malia with her schooling. Scott loves the beach and warm weather. Scott’s dream car is the Bentley Convertible and his favorite classics are Chevies from 61-70.
Kelly is originally from Ridgecrest California. She moved out to Colorado in 1985 with her mother and brother. Kelly absolutely loves the outdoors of Colorado, fitness, crafts and spending time with her family. Most of Kelly’s time, outside of running the business with her husband, is spent raising and coaching their two children. The number one thing that Kelly loves about the automotive business are the customers. She loves being involved in the community and giving back to those that have helped their business strive over the past 20 years. When Kelly retires, she plans to spend a lot of time traveling, chasing beaches and the sunshine! Kelly’s dream car would have to be the 2017 Rolls Royce, and her favorite classic is a 1970 Chevelle!!
Kristy – Office Manager
Originally from South East Texas, Kristy moved out to Colorado with her family in 1988. The beauty of Colorado has captivated her heart and she can’t imagine living anywhere else. She enjoys spending time with her two boys and loves the spirit of fitness and competition. Her dream car is a Nissan GTR, and her favorite classic is a 1949 Mercury and the 1969 Buick Wildcat.
Austin – Service Advisor
As the youngest employee at Scott’s Automotive, 21 year old Austin Hatchel is relatively new to the automotive industry but he is already making an impact. Austin is involved in several racing circuits including drag racing, sled pulls and autocross. He finished his first sled pulling season in 4th place with the N.S.P.A. Austin enjoys spending his free time helping his parents build their house or working on cars with his older brother. Austin’s first project car was a 1979 Mustang that he still owns. His dream car is the Porsche 918 Spyder and his favorite classic is the 1967 Shelby GT500.
Charlie a.k.a “C.J” – Tech
C.J is a Colorado native. He grew up in Fort Collins and went to Poudre High school where he played hockey and football. C.J’s been an Auto tech for 16 years. He lives in Fort Collins with his wife, 2 children, 5 step children, and 4 grandchildren. He loves the beach and dreams of living in warmer weather! C.J’s passion is cars though, you’ll always find him in the garage tinkering. C.J’s dream car is a 1964 GTO, and his favorite classic is the 1967 Chevy pickup (he loves the small back glass!!)
John – Tech
John’s father was in the Marine Corp, so he lived all over the first 19 years of his life. He finally moved to Colorado in 1981. John would describe himself as a “Gear-Head” and has been his whole life. His first project car was a 1965 Mustang that he restored with his dad in high school. Since then he has had a 30 career in the Automotive Industry. He currently lives in Wellington with his wife of 20 years, their two children, 3 dogs, and 1 cat! John enjoys spending his free time with his family. His dream car would have to be the 1969 Hemi Charger, and his favorite classic is the 1959 Pontiac.
Alex – Tech
Alex studied automotive repair while he was living in Fresno California, where he is originally from. He moved to Colorado in 2004 where he met his wife Katie. They live in Wellington Colorado with their Boxer, “Ripkin” and Black Lab “Chevy”. In his free time, Alex enjoys building computers and playing his favorite game, “Rainbow Siege”. Alex’s dream car is a Corvette Z06, and his favorite classic is one that he currently owns, a 1987 Black Firebird!!
Tyler – Tech
22 year old Tyler moved to Colorado from Yuma Arizona in 2013. Tyler lives with his wife Carol and their 2 dogs (a yorkie and german shepard). They are expecting their first child in August. Tyler studied Diesel mechanics at Lincoln Tech. In his free time, he likes to ride his BMX. Tyler’s dream car is a 2003 Dodge Cummins. His favorite classic is the 1969 Lincoln Continental.
